Fitness-For-Service Fitness for purpose Remaining service life Complete traceability Military certification Independent assessment

In the defence industry, continued-operation decisions are not a routine task – they require technical precision, complete documentation and the highest discretion.

  • A system or component has reached its original service life – can it continue to be operated safely?
  • Changed operating conditions, new load profiles or conversions require a new materials and integrity assessment.
  • An official certification requires standard-compliant, fully traceable technical evidence of fitness for purpose.
  • A damage event or finding requires immediate root-cause clarification with authority-compliant documentation and a recommended course of action.

Continued-operation decision, service life extension or certification question?

We deliver technically robust, fully traceable assessments – discreet and standard-compliant.

WHAT DISTINGUISHES DEFENSE ASSESSMENTS FROM CIVIL ONES

Fitness-For-Service in the defence industry places higher demands than in civil industry – across four dimensions.

DIMENSION 01
Complete traceability and chain of custody

Every examination step – from sampling to assessment – is documented seamlessly. No finding without a traceable basis, no analysis step without a record.

  • Documentation of all sampling and examination steps
  • Complete traceability of all test equipment used
  • Chain of custody for all samples and findings
DIMENSION 02
Conservative safety assessment

In the defense sector, assessment is carried out with increased safety factors and conservative assumptions – failure has different consequences in military systems than in civil operation.

  • Increased safety factors in remaining-service-life estimation
  • Conservative assumptions where the data basis is incomplete
  • Clear statement of uncertainties and assessment limits
DIMENSION 03
Military certification requirements

Assessment reports are tailored to the requirements of military or official certification procedures – structured, traceable and leaving no room for interpretation.

  • Authority-compliant report structure and documentation
  • Clear conclusions with no open questions
  • Support in communicating with certification authorities
DIMENSION 04
Utmost confidentiality

All defence-sector assignments are treated with the utmost confidentiality. No disclosure of information, no mention of clients, no transfer of sensitive data.

  • Contractual confidentiality agreements on request
  • No disclosure of client information
  • Secure document transmission and storage

When defense clients contact us

  • A system has reached its planned service life – service life extension requires technical evidence of fitness for purpose
  • Changed operating conditions or conversions require a new materials and integrity assessment of existing components
  • A finding or damage event requires immediate technical clarification with authority-compliant documentation
  • A certification procedure requires standard-compliant, fully traceable evidence of fitness for purpose
  • Procurement decision: technical risk assessment for continued operation vs. new procurement based on an objective remaining-service-life estimation
  • Independent second opinion on an existing internal or external technical assessment

What defense clients want to know before their first enquiry

How do you ensure the confidentiality of defense assignments?
Defense assignments are treated by us with the utmost confidentiality. On request, we conclude an NDA before the project begins. Client data, system information and findings are not disclosed – neither internally to persons not involved nor externally. We name defense-sector references only with the express written consent of the client.
What exactly is a Fitness-For-Service analysis and how does it differ from a simple test?
A Fitness-For-Service analysis (FFS) answers a specific question: is this component or system still suitable for continued operation despite a finding, damage or having reached its design service life? It goes far beyond a standard test: FFS combines materials analysis, damage assessment, structural mechanics and operating history into an overall assessment with conservative safety evidence – and delivers, as a result, a clear assessment of operational suitability, where applicable with defined conditions and constraints.
Are your reports usable for military authorities and certification procedures?
Yes. We structure reports for defense assignments explicitly so that they are usable for official certification procedures and military decision-making bodies – clear conclusions, complete traceability, no open assessment questions. Where the client has specific format requirements, we adapt the report structure accordingly.
Can you also support procurement decisions – continued operation vs. new procurement?
Yes. A technically sound remaining-service-life estimation is the basis for exactly this decision: if a component can still be operated safely for 10 years, immediate new procurement is not economically imperative – and vice versa. We deliver the technical basis for the decision, regardless of which outcome appears more economically favourable.
How quickly can you respond to an acute finding or damage event?
In the event of acute need for action, we are reachable within 24-48 hours. In such cases, please make direct telephone contact – this allows us to prioritise immediately and coordinate the further course of action. For initial contact, a brief description of the situation is sufficient; details follow after conclusion of a confidentiality agreement.
